JASON GARFIELD
World Juggling Federation President

Author of "The Theory and Practice of Juggling"
"Etudes for Juggling: The Next Three Years of Your Life"
"JUGGLING: Fundamental Exercises and Practice Structure"

Q: How long have you been juggling?
A: I've been juggling for 24 years.

Q: Who can take your workshops?
A: Anyone who registers for WJF 6. And any skill level. For the three ball workshop, you don't have to know how to juggle at all. That's where you'll learn the basics. For the three club workshop, you should at least be able to juggle three balls. Once you can juggle three balls and/or three clubs, you can learn something from all the other workshops I'll be teaching. All the workshops start with just one object. So even if you're not that good with three balls, you can still learn how to make a backcross throw with one ball and then later apply it to a 3 ball pattern when you're ready. Same thing for the Overhead Throw workshop. You can't expect to improve that much in a day or a week, but the workshops will teach you how to go about learning each move and you'll learn the proper hand,

arm and body position and the correct timing for all the throws. Everyone has bad habits. The workshops also help you learn what your bad habits are and how to correct them so that you don't limit your potential.

Q: Why put your presidency on the line in the Battle for the WJF Presidency Competition?
A: I created the WJF because it's the kind of event I always wished existed and the kind of event I always wanted to compete in. However, the ESPN heads of programming said that they didn't want the president of the organization also competing because it didn't reflect well on the integrity of the event. Some also thought that the competitions were rigged just so that I could win, even though I lost most of the events I entered. So I decided that it's better if I don't compete in the main competitions. In 2008 I developed a competition that not only could I compete in, but required my participation for it to make sense. And that's the Battle for the WJF Presidency. It's also a great opportunity to add some variety to the event in competitions that wouldn't be relevant for the other competitors. It was a great show at WJF 5, and this year it's going to be even better. See yous punks there!

Jason Garfield will be teaching a variety of workshops, competing in the Battle for the WJF Presidency, producing and directing all the shows, editing the banquet video, and answering all your questions at WJF 6.

See Jason Garfield at the 2010 WJF Convention, July 21st - 25th, 2010 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.
